Manifesting independence

Nigeria clocked 49 and there was a listless celebration of the independence this year. Many said there was nothing to celebrate and they resumed their complaints about the status quo.

The country may be declared independent and her citizens free from slave trade yet it’s another ball game when we talk about manifesting independence. Nigeria is the most populous African nation but her numbers has not turned to strength.

Today’s Coaching Class is my installment on nation building –one man at a time. Better people make better organizations and better organizations will make a better nation.

I believe our independence will make another perspective of sense if it translated to personal independence. Paul Zane Pilsner, economist and millionaire author of God Wants You to be Rich said people don’t care about the economy, but their economy.

Theory of Organizational Behaviour says if we are not strong on our own, we will not be strong as a group. I also say if we have not attained independence on our own, our collective independence may not be effective. Here are some critical thoughts:
Spiritual independence

Wise people know that there is a Hand that moves the world yet there is a measure of slavery a man cannot escape from if he cannot move the Hand that moves the world. Many have almost always been at the edge of a breakthrough but they never seem to get through.

Others never struggle to have what they want in life. They get all they want and more but the truth is that there are things in the invisible realms of life that determines, on a final note, who has independence and who doesn’t.

Remember that The Equation of Life is not 2 + 2 = the answer, rather it is 2 + x = The answer; where x is the sum total of the forces working for or against a person. If the forces working for you are greater than opposing forces, your experiences on the earth will be good.

Why do some students pass away a few months to their graduation ceremony? Why do some others never seem to get a job even though they are qualified? Why are some people ill and medical tests and doctors report otherwise.

There is One who has destroyed all the evil powers there is on the earth including those below and above it and it’s wisdom to team up with Him so that your life, career and endeavour will be preserved.

Financial independence

Money answers all things and it behoves the man who desires to be in charge of his life and resources to master financial matters. You may not get to the millionaire side of your future without the requisite understanding of finances.

Financial mastery is one of the 5 masteries of the effective life. There’ll be an opportunity in your future requiring huge sums of money but the question will be: do you have enough saving or faith for it?

Thank God for your ideas but press further with your thinking until your idea is able to funds itself. What are you doing about a savings culture? Are you saving for the future or you are spending on the go? He that cannot save, they say, does not have in him the stuff for greatness.

Financial independence is when you have enough money and you may not need to work anymore if you choose to. What many call retirement is actually expiration of working ability because they are now advanced in years and his contribution to the organization is tapering towards “less than good” hence they’re laid aside.

Proper retirement is when you have worked hard and your money has also worked hard in form of investments so that you have enough for the immediate and distant future, in multiple folds.

Generational independence

Sam Walton, founder of Warl Mart, has at least two children among the richest people on earth today, if he was alive, he’ll be the richest man without any competition.

He not only lived in a country that secured their independence but he bequeathed generational independence on his children. We really shouldn’t judge your wealth and success until we see what it becomes in the next few generations.

John D. Rockefeller and Henry Ford also left generational wealth and independence for their children and generations yet unborn. The Nigerian parent and soon-to-be parent should break the “me-myself-and-I syndrome, it kills and limits the options of those coming after us.

We should all approach life from a legacy point of view; living in such a way that you plan to be a joy of many generations. To start generational independence for yourself and children yet unborn, you’ll need to be a man of your word, such that you bequeath a good name and honour to your children –this, money cannot buy.

Some names literally open up favour and goodwill all around you because someone has laboured ahead of the others, labours of integrity and commitment. A philosopher said to have peace some people must continually be at war.

Fight now so that the people coming after you will have an easier fare in life –that’s the stuff real fathers are made of. These grade of men are scarce today, join them.

Sustainable independence is the independence that meets the need of the present generation without jeopardizing the chances of the generations to come. If political office holders are eating into the future of the country, you should do better, at least for your children yet unborn.

Entrepreneurial independence

It goes without saying that the high and mighty in the United States of America are basically entrepreneurs, market-driven people who do all they can to improve the society around them by meeting needs and seeking rewards for it.

Entrepreneurial independence may be the greatest independence you could attain as an individual because it will determine your traction in the critical areas of life. Everyday you wake up, you must do enough to earn legitimate income.

Several Nigerians are underemployed, they are doing less than their capacity and they rob the generality if the nation by this under performance. Thank God for the teacher, tailor, trader, student, etc. who returns home by 2pm; let someone tell her she could start other side businesses instead of lounging before the television.
