Hindrances to shining

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick and it gives light unto all that are in the house.

Today’s coaching class is on a redeeming note. What you can do to redeem lost ground in your personal and professional life. Many people look forward to a glorious future but few get that future.

You must have heard that the future is here, or the future is now. The statement is true and more so when it pertains to things that hinder people from the glory, success and shining they deserve.

If you have ever contemplated a glorious future, I beg you to also make sure that the things that cause failure are not assailing you on your journey to the top. Many times, it is not where you fall that really matters but where you slipped.

Some people slipped five years ago but their fall was more recent. If there is any way you have been slipping on some critical issues and it looks as if your colleagues don’t know, be careful because you will be duly compensated for all your actions.

If your future is glorious, you’ll do everything to make sure nothing robs you of it. I have a 20- year philosophy of life: anything I do today, I want to be able to defend it in the next twenty years and as a result, I live my life in that perspective of integrity.

I also have the philosophy of two-good-feet which says don’t put your best foot forward, instead make sure both feet are good and you don’t need to bother which comes out first.

You don’t have to be a senator before embracing a life of integrity. If you envision a life that will be global in impact and relevance, it is important that you start culturing yourself after global standards.

The world is astonished as to how they have nothing incriminating against Barack Obama. Truth is, he knew the number one hindrance to shining as a lack of integrity. Integrity is the root word for integral; a whole unified entity.

Integrity is a sine qua non for a life of success and glory. A deficiency in integrity leads down the doldrums of obscurity. Integrity must leave the realm of vocabulary to become a critical part of your value system.

Integrity is critical in at least three realms: in word, in time and in life. Integrity in word means you are careful about what you say, making sure that it is the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

You say what you mean and you mean what you say. You have developed yourself so well that your word becomes your bond. Regardless of who you are relating with, I recommend a relationship of integrity.

When you fail in integrity with your family members, you lose more than you really know. It is your family that will be there when others desert you but if your family cannot vouch for you on critical matters of life it becomes a sad matter.

It will look like a man falling from a cliff and the people closest to him feign helplessness. Live with integrity. Let your yes be yes and your no be no. what about integrity with time?

This is the hallmark of achievers. If you are still in the habit of arriving late for meetings, you lack the stuff of greatness. The world is a time world and it is important that you respect time.

When you get to developed countries, you will see how much money, in form of time that we waste in Nigeria. Is your meeting scheduled for 9am? Leave home well ahead of the time factor in the peculiarity of the road.

It becomes a case of unreliability at the higher registers of life if you are always late for appointments. Proactive leaders will start looking for a more reliable alternative for you. The integrity of life:

The lack of integrity of life is a sin against God and humanity. It is tantamount to hypocrisy. This is when your reputation –what you posture before people- is not the same as who you are in the secret.

Someone said you will know more about a man in one hour on the day he is off duty than a month in official engagements. This suggests that all that glitters is not gold. People are waiting to see the skeletons in your cupboard. Disappoint them.

Yes disappoint your detractors by making sure your life is one of utmost integrity. The world is watching you. It will surprise you how many people will suddenly know you when you fall or drop the ball. It is really worth it?

Is five minutes of uncontrolled passion really worth the years you have spent building a career and a name for yourself? Is the money on offer worth the future that may be sacrificed by collecting a bribe?

The Nigeria of the future will be one of integrity; it will be gradual and sudden. The empires of men will fail and the order will change to a righteous order. Don’t be caught napping. The evil that men do definitely waits for them in the future.

The lack of integrity puts men under a bushel professionally and in every other way. You may see a proficient fellow not rising beyond a certain cadre at his work; you may fell for him and enquire as to why he has not been moved upwards. Let it not surprise you that such a fellow has failed at the junction of integrity sometimes earlier.

How many young men and women shortchange themselves of a glorious future only for a fleeting passion?
